Charitable Community Benefit Society

In 2018 we let you know Severnside Housing was in the process of converting to a Community Benefit Society (CBS). This process is now complete.

What is a community benefit society?

You may have heard of industrial provident societies – these are now called community benefit societies. A community benefit society is a type of a not-for-profit organisation that exists to benefit the community. They are registered with the Financial Conduct Authority rather than Companies House.

Severnside Housing has not changed its name as a result of this conversion, and its services, objectives and values have not changed at all. We are still a charity and any money that we make is reinvested to benefit our community.

What has changed?

We are now registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and continue to be regulated by the Regulator of Social Housing. We remain a charity and our charitable objectives will not change, nor will our vision, aims or objectives. Some of our internal governance processes will change to ensure that we continue to be an efficient, effective and compliant business.

What does it mean for me?

Residents – there are no changes for any residents of Severnside Housing.

Suppliers – any new contracts with us following conversion need to describe the organisation correctly: Severnside Housing (Registered as a Charitable Community Benefit Society with registration number 8084) registered office: Severnside House, Brassey Road, Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury SY3 7FA.
